POTD: In A Back Alley

If you walk out the back door of your favorite restaurant, you never know who you might find in the back alley parking lot.

Anzhelika

Anzhelika

If you are really lucky it might be the beautiful Ukrainian model Anzhelika (who now lives in South Carolina). Of course the odds of running into her behind a restaurant are much better if you just finished treating her to dinner.

The light was pretty soft and even. Note how soft her shadow is on the wall behind her in this photo. This made metering very simple. A gray card reading gave me an excellent exposure. I could also have metered her face and used the exposure compensation scale on the camera to dial in +1 exposure compensation.

Update, January 7, 2016: See the link below for the same location under different lighting conditions.

Before dinner she was checking messages on her phone and I was intrigued by the light, not only coming from the window behind her, but also the light from her phone glowing under her fingertips.

Same alley, same wall, different model. But the light was more contrasty so I needed to make some fill flash decisions.
