The common perception of a fashion shot on location is beautiful models in fabulous locations, but that is not the whole story, and maybe not entirely the real story as you will see in this video.
Join Melissa Rodwell on a location shoot in Dubai for Harper’s Bazaar Arabia. If you are doing fashion photography for a high dollar client there is lots of planning, location scouting, meetings, passing on some great locations that don’t fit the story, and more planning. As you watch this all play out, some of might seem kind of – well – boring. But it is all essential to a great shoot.
And at first glance some of the locations may not end up being quite as fabulous as you expected (except for the camel). Certainly nothing like the gorgeous tropical beaches of a Sports Illustrated swimsuit shoot. Or maybe professional photographers see potential in some ordinary looking locations that the average person doesn’t see.
When you get to the actual photo shoot you have an opportunity to see how reflectors are used to bounce light back into the model’s face to tame the lighting contrast when shooting in the sun.
I bet as you are watching this video you are tempted to skip to the end to see how it all turns out. This is your chance to see how a lot of hard work comes together to get the final results.
