Easy choice today. I went through my favorite photos folder and found two photos taken on August 16. This one is far and away my favorite for sentimental reasons.
Our family was at O’Haver Lake in Colorado and I took a picture of our children. It was the first of several photos taken over the years in front of that sign. The date was August 16, 1979. I can’t believe it was 39 years ago.
When my brother and I were growing up in Colorado in the 60s, our parents would take us camping at O’Haver Lake. It was one of our favorite family places. So my wife and I took our children there several times. Lots of memories.
Check back August 19 for a photo of our three children at the same sign eleven years later.
If you are in south central Colorado, O’Haver Lake is a great place to camp. Or just stop, take in the view and grab a few pictures. It is south of Poncha Springs. Take U.S. 285 south and then follow the signs to Marshall Pass and O’Haver Lake.
O’Haver Lake is positioned in a bowl between three mountain passes. Longtime campers there told me years ago that something about the weather patterns means O’Haver Lake often has milder temperatures than the surrounding area, something you will appreciate on cold autumn nights. It is a great place to camp. If you like fishing there are trout in the lake.
