Favorite Photo, August 22

Cascade, Barry, and Coxe Glaciers. Barry Arm, Prince William Sound, Alaska.

Picking today’s favorite photo was easy. Out of over 3400 images in my “favorite photos” folder, only one of them was taken on August 22. Even if there had been several photos to choose from, today’s pick would still be a winner.

We were on a cruise and entered the Barry Arm of Prince William Sound. There in front of us were (left to right) Cascade, Barry, and Coxe Glaciers. It was a magnificent sight.  The date was August 22, 2000.

Cascade, Barry, and Coxe Glaciers, 1913.

The photo at the beginning of this article doesn’t look very different from a photo taken in 1913.

In this blog photo by “Queenie” from 2015, Cascade and Barry Glaciers are now far apart from each other, they have receded so much. Thanks to warmer temperatures, these glaciers have receded more in the 15 years since 2000 than in the 87 years prior to 2000.
