There are over 3400 images in my “favorite photos” folder, but only one image for August 25, this lovely young woman.
This may be the only photo for this date but it is a keeper. I have been photographing Erin and her two sisters since they were toddlers. Our families are friends.
By now all three sisters know the difference between good and bad light for portraits. One Saturday Erin said to her mother “This is perfect light for portraits, Is Jim in town?” I was out of town, but when I got back the next day, the light was still great so we did portraits.
My preferred light for portraits outside is a “cloudy bright” day, just enough clouds to minimize shadows but not so many clouds as to be gloomy. If you look at the ground and there is no shadow or just a hint of a shadow, that is perfect portrait light. Of course you leave the gray cloudy sky out of your images when you do the portraits.
Just look at those eyes! This is cropped from the larger image to give you a better look.
Erin’s sister Ava is my favorite photo for September 2.
