Favorite Photo, October 1

Dawn at Sprague Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. October 1, 2014.

It was an amazing morning at Sprague Lake. A long row of photographers was lined up on the lake shore, looking east. The light just kept getting better and better and shutters were clicking like crazy.

The high altitude winds were coming out of the west. The lenticular clouds forming to the east were taking the general shape of the mountains behind us. That is not unusual with lenticular clouds.

Alpenglow, Hallett Peak and Flattop Mountain, Rocky Mountain National Park. October 1, 2014.

The light was at its best long before sunrise. In fact as the light faded on the clouds to the east, photographers moved around to the east side of the lake to shoot the alpenglow developing on the mountains to the west.

Storm Clouds Rolling In. Hallett Peak and Flattop Mountain. Rocky Mountain National Park. October 1, 2014. Colorado

The sun finally came up. Photographers were still at it. Then the storm clouds rolled in from the west.

What a great day for photography and one of my all time favorite mornings.

Sprague Lake is a great location for photography.
