Favorite Photo, October 4

Vermilion Lakes, Banff National Park. October 4, 2012.

Today’s choice was a fairly easy one. For some reason there are only a half dozen photos for this date in my favorite photos folder, and for another, one stands out to me as a clear favorite.

It was my one and only trip to Banff National Park. I had four sunrises and four sunsets for photography, plus the time in between. Unfortunately, it was drizzly and cloudy much of the time and there were times I couldn’t even see the mountains. But this one evening the clouds dispersed and there was minimal wind so I captured this scene with a nice reflection. The sunlight kissing the trees and parts of the distant mountain before it set was a nice plus.

Mackinac Bridge at Night. Michigan. October 4, 2006.

My second place favorite photo for this date was taken at the Mackinac Bridge. I lived in Michigan for 9 years and crossed “Big Mac” on a regular basis. The Straights of Mackinac between Michigan’s upper and lower peninsulas are usually pretty choppy. But this particular night the water was somewhat calm so I could get a nice, slightly blurred  reflection of the lights on the bridge.
