My favorite photo for October 10 was easy to pick. We were visiting our daughter Janae in Michigan and she decided to get out her ukelele and play and sing a few songs.
My second favorite photo for October 10 was taken when I got home from my trip to Banff National Park. As soon as I got home from the airport, Melissa said Roger had some mushrooms to show me in his back yard. He thought I would want to photograph them and he saved them for me. Roger always has an immaculately groomed yard so I was surprised to see an unmowed 10 foot circle of pine needles around the mushrooms. The rest of his yard was mowed and looked great as usual so I knew Roger put off mowing that one area until I got home from Canada. The mushrooms looked great but the light was soft and boring. I told Roger the mushrooms would look great the next day at sunset if the sun was out and if he didn’t mind putting off mowing the area for one more day.
The next day the low, angled sunset light looked great. I put my tripod and camera low to the ground and went to work. Roger was looking around his yard. He came back with one orange leaf and put it next the the mushrooms and said “Does that help the photograph?” “Yes, Roger, it does!” I clicked the shutter again.
After I finished, Roger mowed down the mushrooms and sucked up the pine needles, leaving perfect looking grass.
