Favorite Photo, November 6

Matt, Worthington, Ohio. November 6, 2011.

November seems to be the month for portraits. All of the photos for this date in my “favorite photos” folder are portraits.

This outdoor portrait of Matt is my favorite image for this date. We were shooting in a city park. A beautiful tree was just across the street from the park so I used it as one of my backgrounds. I chose a lens aperture and focal length (f/8, 200mm) for this image that would keep Matt’s face sharp but make the tree blurred.

Matt has led an interesting life. He escaped Iraq during the First Gulf War. He lived in a Kurdish area of Iraq that Saddam Hussein used to bomb on a regular basis. The war was a chance to escape the danger, come to American and create a new and better life.

He is an excellent and honest auto mechanic and he was our mechanic when we lived in Ohio. He is the owner of One Call Auto Mechanic.

We have done several photo shoots together and I created several of the images that are on his web site. Two of my framed photos of Matt hang in his waiting room. If you go see him, tell him I sent you. If you are looking for a great mechanic on the north side of Columbus, Ohio, Matt is your guy.

Ava, Worthington, Ohio. November 6, 2011.

My second favorite image for this date was taken in the same park and on the same day as Matt’s image and not far from the same location. Ava’s photo shoot was later in the day.

If you have been following this series for a while, her face should look familiar. Our families have been friends for years and I have been creating images of her since she was about 2 years old. A more recent photo of Ava is here.
