Favorite Photo, January 8

Organ Mountains, New Mexico. January 8, 1990.

Ansel Adams is right. There is something wonderful about New Mexico. There is an abundance of great subjects to shoot and the light can be magical.

I was in southern New Mexico taking pictures along the west side of the Organ Mountains. The sun was coming up in the east and as it crested a ridge it cast a golden light on all of the grass and the cactus. I wandered around until I found a composition I liked with the right relationship between the cactus in the foreground and the mountains in the background. This is my favorite image for January 8.

Either side of the Organ Mountains is a great location for photography.
