If you have been following this series, you know I went on a cross country family history trip in 2011 (with a scenic side trip through southern Utah). My plan was to visit relatives in Colorado, Utah, and Oregon and record family stories. This doll is part of that story.
She may look just a little bit worn. She has been in the family for over 100 hundred years and has a lot of sentimental value. This doll belonged to my mother’s mother who was born in 1899. She gave the doll to my mother.
While we were sharing memories on my visit to California, my cousin Sue (who has a remarkable memory, as I said in a prior article) described in detail one of her birthday celebrations. Her family drove from their home in Golden Colorado to our home in Pueblo and they had Sue’s birthday celebration with us. It was a highlight of her day when my mother gave Sue this doll as a birthday present. That was about 50 years ago and Sue described the day like it happened yesterday.

In this photo from the mid 1920s mom is holding two of her dolls.
