It was a rainy, drizzly day at Whitefish Point in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, but photographers and bird watchers were everywhere. I was leading as photography field trip. This curious Blue Jay got closer and closer and was eyeing me carefully. I kept clicking the shutter as the jay got closer. This is one of my two most favorite photos for this date.
Rain protection was the order of the day. It can be fancy and expensive, or as simple as a ziplock bag.
When I lived in Ohio one of my favorite things to do Memorial Day weekend was to go to the annual Asian Festival. I was backstage doing portraits of DaiQing Tana, a singer and dancer with HAYA. She is Mongolian by background and the band does music with Mongolian roots. This is my other most favorite image for May 29.

In my article for May 27 I promised you another spider photo. Two days after finding the spider in our son’s kitchen in Iowa, I found this spider living in our son Jim’s home in Manhattan Kansas. This particular spider had taken up residence in the entryway, with the family’s permission. Everyone was careful not to step on the spider any time they went out or in. It was quite a coincidence to discover both of our sons had spiders in residence at the same time. Like I said in my May 27 article, we are a spider tolerant family. This is one of my favorite photos for May 29.
One of my grandsons took a picture of me photographing “their spider” with a macro lens and a ring flash.
