I was leading my annual June photography workshop in Northern Michigan and we were on a night photography field trip. It was a gorgeous night. At just the right time we were able to catch the edge between twilight and night with the planet Venus and stars over Lake Michigan. This is one of my two most favorite photos for this date.
I was between Nederland and Estes Park on my way to Rocky Mountain National Park when I spotted this shooting star on the side of the road. It was in a shallow ravine with the highway on one side and a fence on the other. The only angle I could use to keep the road and the fence out of the photo was to lay down in the middle of the ravine which had water running in it due to the rain. I was getting soaked. I got an umbrella out of the car and propped them up to keep the camera and lens dry. I love this photo with the delicacy of the flower and the rain drops. It is one of my all time favorite photos and my other most favorite photo for this date.
Later the same day I found these Blue Chiming Bells in Moraine Park in Rocky Mountain National Park. I am again on the ground, my camera about 12 inches above the ground. This is one of my favorite photos for June 9.
This is the same day as the two flower photos. It was clearly a great day for photography. This Wyoming Ground Squirrel is peeking out of his burrow at me. Once again, my camera is only about 12 inches above the ground. This is another favorite photo for June 9.
I have several photos of him sitting by the burrow, eating, and paying no attention to me, but the one of him peeking at me is my favorite.
My Northern Michigan photography workshop is about nature photography, but I had a special request to do a portrait session. Brittany volunteered to be the “model” for a short casual portrait demo. This is another of my favorite photos for June 9.
