The big day arrived, the celebration for Doris’ 90th birthday. Doris in the middle of the seated row, along with her four daughters. Gathered around are her sons-in-law, all of her grandchildren and some of her great-grand grandchildren. This is a favorite family portrait and one of my two most favorite images for this date.

Tiana is a model based in the San Francisco Bay Area and I was in California so I booked a morning photo shoot at the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. As you know from past posts I am usually there to photograph wading birds, but this was a different kind of shoot. I prefer soft light days for portrait photography, but we had sunshine, so I used the sun to backlight Tiana. I love the sunlight coming through her hair. This is one of my favorite portraits and one of my two most favorite photos for July 15. You will see Tiana again in my favorite photo for July 20.
