My goal was to see prairie chickens. But it was cool and foggy and there were no prairie chickens to be seen at the Kellerton Iowa Bird Conservation Area. So I turned my attention elsewhere.
There were several meadowlarks in the area. One in particular liked two fence posts not far from the road. So I parked on the side of the road not far from one of those fence posts. He finally landed on the post and started to sing. I took a few photos, drove a little closer and took more photos. The closer yet and more photos. Eventually I got as close as I could get and took another series of photos. This is of them.
A car makes a pretty good photo blind for getting much closer to wild birds than you could ever get on foot.
