Choosing Favorites from a Photo Shoot

Adobe Bridge: Screen capture of a few photo shoot images.

As is my custom at the end of photo shoot, I handed my camera to Beth and asked her to pick our her favorites. She turned the thumb dial on the back of the camera to go through the photos and she read the four digit file numbers of her favorites, I wrote them down. If she said something like “I especially like this one!” I put down a star by that file number.

After Beth left for home, I looked through all the photos too, but I didn’t pick out any favorites. I have learned from some first rate photographers that it is best to let a few days go by before picking out favorites. You will make a better selection that way. Several days after our shoot I went through the photos using Adobe Bridge and gave my favorites three stars. Then I got out Beth’s list of favorites and marked all of her favorites with the color blue. I marked her special favorites with the color red. After this process I can see at a glance my favorites and her favorites.

As you can see from this screen capture of Adobe Bridge, the photo at the top left is not only one of my three star favorites, it is one of her special favorites.

When I optimize photos from a shoot, I start with the photos we both chose as favorites.

Adobe Bridge is a free download. You can use Adobe Bridge to download photos to your computer, re-name them, add keywords to the photos, and mark your favorites. If you are working with a model you can mark her favorites too.
