I have been using Topaz Sharpen AI and I am impressed. It has rescued some old photos that were previously unusable. This photo is an example. I tried Photoshop but I could not successfully fix this photo. I have other photos of this dancer that are sharp, but I like this particular moment in the dance.
And then I found and started using Topaz Sharpen AI. I went back to my images of this dancer, picked this one, and used Topaz. You can see the difference between the original image on the left and the after version on the right. Other than being resized for the internet, these are the before and after originals.
After I sharpened the image with Topaz I used Photoshop to tweak the tonalities in this image to come up with the final version at the top of this article.
I decided to give Photoshop another chance to fix this image and compare the result to the Topaz version. The Photoshop result is looking a bit chunky. I could sharpen it even more but the chunkiness gets worse and the image gets pretty ugly. The Topaz version on the right is better. It is most obvious in the butterfly earring and beads.
You can download the full size version of Topaz Shapen AI and use it n full sized images for free. There will be a faded watermark on the final result but you can tell if Topaz works for you. If you like it buy it. After you buy the software your images will not have the Topaz watermark. If you don’t, move on. You have lost nothing but some of you time.
I am very pleased with Topaz Sharpen AI. Like any software you will need to experiment with the settings and sliders to get the best results. If you choose your settings poorly you will get ugly looking images.
