iPhone Art with the Painteresque App

Autumn Leaves, Banff National Park (modified image)

I take pictures with my iPhone just for fun.  And that includes altering the photos, like the one above, with some of my favorite iPhone apps.

Autumn Leaves, Banff National Park (original image)

The photo immediately above is the original. I cropped it quite a bit to focus just on the leaves. Then I used PS Express (Photoshop Express) to jazz up the saturation and Painteresque to create a painterly look. Don’t be afraid to run an image through Painteresque a second time. As long as you save the image each time you have nothing to lose. And you can always go back and start over.  Painteresque tends to desaturate images so you made need to hit the image a second time with the saturation slider in PS Express. The final image was sharpened with PS Express. Quite a difference.

Ironically, I get requests to buy prints of my “iPhone art”. Thanks to the image processing applied by the iPhone apps, plus resizing and some judicious sharpening in Photoshop, it is possible to make some nice sized enlargements. I have made and exhibited prints as large as 16×24 inches.

If you haven’t unleashed your creative juices with some iPhone apps, maybe it is time.

Have fun!
